November 19, 2008 Jordan’s Memorial & Candlelight Vigil Pictures

December 1, 2008: With special thanks to both the Pine Knot of Cloquet, MN and Nelson Funeral Care, here’s some photos of Jordan’s Memorial and Candlelight Vigil. After sharing stories about Jordan, the family walked through the crowd and lit candles and we all sat in silence, each with their own thoughts and reflections as Jordan lay at the front of the hall.

Welcome…

Welcome to the online memorial home dedicated to Jordan L. Tucker. This will be a work in progress probably for a very long time to come. In the end, time will help ease the pain of Jordan’s passing but not the memory. Jordan touched so many people – his visitation night with over 600 people showing their respects, his candlelight vigil with over 300 friends and family holding candles in his memory and a crowded church are testaments of his spirit, his humor, his kindness and his caring for others.

This is not ‘our’ site – his parents. This is your site and it is his site. We only learned in the end just how many people he had touched – his hilarious sense of humor, his favorite activities (restaurants, ‘babe watching’, stories, memories, etc.). PLEASE POST. PLEASE POST HIS JOKES, YOUR STORIES, YOUR MEMORIES, YOUR PICTURES. We want to hear them as much as you probably want to tell them.

PLEASE share your memories, send us your photos to upload – and if you’d like to volunteer to help build or coordinate this site, by all means contact one of us. It’s only right that you who knew and loved him so well help build this tribute to his memory.

Thank you all for loving him – for being his friend – for laughing with him and being a part of his very special life. Thank you for sharing some of your memories with the rest of the world and giving everyone a glimpse of Jordan.

On behalf of the life and times of Jordan Lee Tucker, we dedicate this site to his spirit.

Many students wore blaze orange to Esko’s Lincoln High School today in memory and honor of their classmate Jordan L. Tucker. Tucker, 18, died unexpectedly in his sleep early Saturday.

  • Remember Tucker
  • “Today probably 60 or 70 percent of our student body are dressed in blaze orange in his honor,” high school Principal Greg Hexum said. “Jordan was one of the founders of our blaze orange Fridays here during deer hunting.”

Hexum, who had Tucker as a student before becoming principal, remembered Tucker as a popular student.

“He was the kind of guy who crossed a lot of social boundaries and got along with a variety of people,” Hexum said. “He had a low-keyed, laid-back demeanor that appealed to a lot of people. In addition to that he was a real gentleman. He could get along with anybody. That was very much Jordan.”

Tucker was an honor student, with a 3.4 grade point average as a senior. In addition, he was the goalie for the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton varsity soccer team.

“Until his senior year, he was the consummate back-up goalie,” Hexum said. “There always seemed to be one person in front of him. He waited his turn patently, was a supportive team member. You never had any playing-time issues with him. He was a great teammate.”

Tucker used his time as starting goalie. He was named all-conference goalie and played in the regional all-star game. “His last half of soccer was shut-out soccer,” Hexum said. “As a goalie, that’s a big deal.”

Almost all of the school’s students learned of Tucker’s death Saturday or Sunday, Esko Superintendent Aaron Fischer said. Many of the students arrived at school Monday dressed up in honor of Tucker.

“Something special for him was to wear nice clothes and dress up,” Fischer said. “So they dressed up. Most of them wore black in tribute to him.”

Tucker’s senior class contains 100 students, so everyone knows everyone else. School officials began preparing for Monday as soon as they heard of Tucker’s death. Teachers were informed via a telephone calling tree. The district activated its crisis team, establishing a grief center and staffing it Monday with school counselors and four clergy members.

“We had that set up right away in the morning,” Fischer said.

When teachers arrived Monday, they were told of what services were available for the students.

“We tried to give them some ideas on how to help the kids deal with this,” Fischer said. “It’s a traumatic event for everyone.”

Fischer described the mood at school Monday as somber.

“There was a lot of sadness,” he said. “But having a day in-between certainly helped. A lot of them had Saturday night and all day Sunday to talk and process with family and friends.”

Community churches had also been informed of Tucker’s death before Sunday services.

“The whole community really came together and did our best to support” the students, Fischer said.

“It’s been a couple rough days here, but the students are handling it well,” Hexum said.

    Remembering Jordan

Jordan L. Tucker, age 18 years and 5 days, of Cloquet, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep early Saturday, November 15, 2008. He was born November 10, 1990 in Duluth. Jordan attended Churchill Elementary School, Cloquet Middle School, and would have graduated next spring from Esko High School. He was an honor student with a passion for fishing and hunting especially around Lake Vermilion where he had many “secret” walleye spots. Jordan loved soccer and was named all-conferences goalie and played in the all star game this fall. He also was an excellent youth soccer referee.

Jordan is dearly loved and greatly missed by his mother and step-father, Barbara and Mike Krzenski; father and step-mother, Jeff and Kathi Tucker; sisters Amanda and Breanna Tucker; grandparents, Bob and Danielle Stevens, Karen Tucker, Ron and Jean Tucker; great-grandparents, Mary and Stanley Hill; uncles Brad (Toni) Stevens, Rick (Maureen) Tucker, and aunt Julie (Lowell) Fermenich; step-sister, Amber (Ben) Ward; step-brothers, Jake (Kristy) Krzenski and Jesse Krzenski; numerous cousins; and a multitude of very good friends.

Jordan had a great sense of humor, and a deep baritone voice that rumbled when he spoke. He was a tough man, a good friend, a great son, and the best brother. He will always be remembered, never forgotten, and his memories will be honored as well as treasured. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a memorial fund in Jordan’s name at U.S. Bank.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet.  The visitation will resume on Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until the 4:00 p.m. funeral service at Grace Baptist Church in Cloquet, followed with a time of fellowship in the church social hall.  The family has selected Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet to assist them with arrangements.
